A fire broke out early this morning on the Benguela Belize Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) deep-water oil platform in Angola, injuring 17 workers, four of them seriously, according to a statement from the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANPG).
The platform is operated by Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Limited (Cabgoc), a Chevron subsidiary, and is located in Block 14 within the maritime zone of Cabinda.
The incident occurred around 3:00 AM on the subsoil deck of the BBLT platform during a scheduled maintenance shutdown, which had already halted all production since May 1, the ANPG confirmed.
All injured personnel have been safely transported to land and are receiving appropriate medical treatment. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Cabgoc acted swiftly to extinguish the fire and implemented all emergency response protocols, notifying the relevant authorities as required.
In its statement, the ANPG emphasized that the top priority remains “ensuring the safety of all personnel, providing the best care for the injured, and thoroughly investigating the root cause of the incident.”
Cabgoc, Chevron’s Angolan subsidiary, operates two offshore concessions on behalf of its partners. In Block 0, the partners include Sonangol E.P. (41%), TotalEnergies EP Petroleum (Angola) SAS (10%), and Azule Energy Angola Production B.V.
In Block 14, the partnership includes Sonangol P&P (20%), Angola Block 14 B.V. (20%), Azule Energy Angola (20%), and Etu Energias (9%).
