Viridien and Morocco’s ONHYM Join Forces to Improve Subsurface Data and Unlock Exploration Opportunities
Geoscience technology company Viridien has signed a multi-client collaboration agreement with Morocco’s Office National des Hydrocarbures et des Mines (ONHYM) to improve subsurface data analysis and support hydrocarbon exploration across the country’s onshore and offshore sedimentary basins.
Announced on 7 October 2026, the agreement establishes a framework for the two organisations to develop integrated subsurface data and advanced analytics to improve understanding of Morocco’s geological formations and help identify potential oil and gas exploration opportunities.
The collaboration will combine ONHYM’s regional and geoscientific expertise with Viridien’s capabilities in seismic imaging, geoscience and data analytics.
The initiative is also intended to strengthen technical expertise, encourage knowledge exchange and attract international investment into Morocco’s hydrocarbon sector.
ONHYM Chief Executive Officer Amina Benkhadra said the partnership reflected the agency’s commitment to innovation and international cooperation to develop Morocco’s hydrocarbon potential.
She said combining the agency’s regional knowledge with Viridien’s technologies would help improve subsurface understanding, attract investment and expand exploration opportunities.
Dechun Lin, Head of Earth Data at Viridien, said the agreement marked an important step in the company’s expansion across Africa.
He highlighted the potential of combining Viridien’s seismic imaging and data science capabilities with ONHYM’s regional expertise to support hydrocarbon exploration.
The partnership comes as Morocco seeks to strengthen its domestic energy resources and diversify supply amid continued reliance on imported energy.
Improved geological data and analysis could help exploration companies assess prospective sedimentary basins and evaluate potential opportunities for further investment.
Through the collaboration, Viridien and ONHYM aim to enhance the technical information available to prospective investors and support the continued development of Morocco’s oil and gas exploration sector.
