Catoca Mining Society Wins Africa Social Responsibility Award at British Parliament

The Catoca Mining Society, Angola’s largest diamond mining company, has been honored with the Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development Award in Africa, presented by African Leadership Magazine at a ceremony held at the British Parliament in London on July 10.

Located in Lunda Sul province, Catoca is responsible for over 60 percent of Angola’s total diamond production.

The award recognizes the company’s ongoing efforts in promoting social, economic, and environmental sustainability across the region.

“This award reinforces our conviction that we are on the right path,” said Benedito Paulo Manuel, General Manager of Catoca.

“Our commitment to sustainability is not just symbolic—it has a real impact on thousands of families, helping them build better lives and promoting meaningful development.”

In its statement, the company expressed pride in being “the largest private economic agent in the eastern region of Angola,” generating thousands of jobs and implementing wide-reaching social initiatives.

These include programs focused on healthcare, education, hunger and poverty reduction, housing, youth support, and sports development.

The recognition, according to the organizers, reflects the strong support from readers of African Leadership Magazine and the wider public, who acknowledged the scale and positive impact of Catoca’s community-driven efforts.

The prestigious event was attended by prominent African leaders and notable figures from British society, including former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, various ministers, provincial governors, and members of the UK House of Lords.
