Alfort Petroleum Prepares First Exploration Well Proposal for Angola’s Block KON 8

Alfort Petroleum Targets Onshore Growth with Block KON 8 Well Proposal in Angola

Angolan independent oil and gas company Alfort Petroleum has confirmed it is preparing a well proposal for Block KON 8, scheduled for submission in the second quarter of 2026.

The proposal will be presented to Angola’s national concessionaire, the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG), as well as the block’s joint venture partners for approval.

The announcement was made by Gianni Martins, General Manager of Alfort Petroleum, during the opening day of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2025 Conference and Exhibition in Luanda.

As operator of the onshore block, Alfort Petroleum recently completed seismic data acquisition and is now moving forward with plans to drill its first exploration well.

The proposal will include the well’s objectives, location, design, and schedule, all supported by geological and geophysical insights from the latest seismic studies.

“The Kwanza Basin is a major basin in Angola, where not much has been done because most international oil companies are focused on the offshore,” Martins explained. “We took advantage of the regional seismic data.

We’re seeing things the previous operator couldn’t see, which is why there is such a high level of excitement.”

What the Well Proposal Will Cover

In line with industry standards, the Block KON 8 well proposal will detail key engineering and operational elements, including:

Well trajectory and design.

Casing and cementing programs.

Drilling fluid systems.

Completion plans.

Cost estimates and economic analysis.

A full project timeline.

The submission will also outline health, safety, and environmental (HSE) strategies, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated in compliance with international best practices.

Additionally, the proposal will confirm alignment with Angolan regulations and ANPG requirements.

The Block KON 8 project represents an important milestone for Alfort Petroleum as it expands its footprint in Angola’s onshore oil and gas industry.

The initiative also aligns with the government’s strategy to boost onshore exploration and diversify production capacity, ensuring Angola maintains long-term energy security while creating new opportunities for local suppliers and service providers.

By pursuing exploration in the Kwanza Basin, Alfort Petroleum is positioning itself as a key player in Angola’s next phase of onshore development, helping to unlock reserves that have remained largely underexplored compared to offshore resources.
