Zambia’s Ambassador to Angola Tours Lobito Oil Refinery, Boosting Regional Energy and Trade Links
His Excellency Rev. Dr. Elias Munshya, Zambia’s Ambassador to Angola, concluded an official working visit to Benguela Province with a technical tour of the Lobito Oil Refinery, a flagship energy infrastructure project within the Lobito Corridor framework.
The visit took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, and marked the final engagement of the Ambassador’s programme in Benguela, which aimed to strengthen strategic infrastructure links and enhance economic cooperation between Zambia and Angola.
During the tour, Ambassador Munshya was welcomed by the refinery’s leadership and technical team, who provided detailed briefings on the project’s scope, progress, and phased implementation.
The Lobito Oil Refinery is designed to process 200,000 barrels of crude oil per day and will feature a marine terminal, storage facilities, pipeline systems, and an integrated logistics network to support domestic supply and regional exports.
Ambassador Munshya commended the progress achieved and underscored the refinery’s strategic importance for regional energy security, industrial development, and trade integration.
He highlighted the opportunity for Zambia to access refined petroleum products from a closer and more reliable source, leveraging potential connectivity via rail, pipeline, and multimodal transport solutions linked to the Lobito Corridor.
He reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to continued engagement with the Angolan government and project partners, emphasizing the potential for Zambia to participate as a regional market for refined petroleum products once the refinery becomes operational.
The Embassy of the Republic of Zambia in Angola praised the Angolan government and project partners for the scale and ambition of the Lobito Oil Refinery and expressed optimism that ongoing collaboration would advance shared goals of regional development and economic integration.
