Following the approval of a $268 million financing package, newly appointed UK Ambassador to Angola, Bharat Joshi, visited the Longonjo site to assess progress ahead of construction.
Accompanied by Country Manager Geraldine Tchimbali, local Huambo authorities, community leaders, and the press, the ambassador observed site preparations for the Pensana rare earths project.
Joshi emphasized the global significance of Longonjo, stating, “Longonjo might seem like a small village in the heart of Angola, but for the United Kingdom and the world, it is a capital.
The Pensana project is of strategic importance for its critical minerals. Starting in May, it will create over 400 jobs and many more opportunities throughout its implementation and production phases.”
Tchimbali showcased the completed accommodation facilities, upgraded road network, and construction laydown area, highlighting ongoing stakeholder engagement through regular meetings with local, provincial, and national authorities.
The financing approval marks a key milestone in Pensana’s mission to establish new sources of critical materials, reinforcing Africa’s role in the global clean energy transition.
