TotalEnergies Leads Top Large-Scale Solar PV Developers Globally

French multinational integrated energy company, TotalEnergies, has been ranked as the leading large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) developer in the world.

With a total capacity of 41.3 GW, the supermajor ranks as the top company for projects currently under construction, while also taking the top spot for awarded Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) projects and operational projects, with 29.3 GW and 12 GW, respectively.

Targeting data from July 2022 to June 2023, Mercom Capital Group’s Annual Global Report compiled the rankings based on the operational capacity of large-scale projects with a capacity of 1 MW or more for developers with projects in at least two countries.

“This year’s report includes several new companies, primarily led by European developers,” stated Raj Prabhu, CEO of Mercom Capital Group.

“This shift aligns with the evolving priorities in the energy sector, focusing on achieving decarbonization goals set by nations and addressing energy security concerns in light of geopolitical developments.”

The second-highest ranked developer in terms of operational capacity is Indian renewable energy company, Adani Green Energy, with 18.1 GW, followed by Canada’s Brookfield Renewable Partners, with 18 GW.

Meanwhile, Brookfield Renewable Partners and Adani Green Energy ranked second and third for under-construction and awarded PPA-contracted capacities, with 13.6 GW and 11.1 GW, respectively.

In terms of operational large-scale solar capacity, Italian multinational renewable energy corporation, Enel Green Power, was placed second with 9.2 GW, while Adani Green Energy placed third, with 7 GW.

According to the report, the top ten solar PV developers accounted for 145 GW of operational, under-construction and awarded solar projects during the reporting period, of which 49.5 GW are operational, 29.1 GW are under construction, and 66.2 GW are contracted.

Among the top ten developers, six are based in Europe, while three are based in North America and one is headquartered in South Asia.
