South Africa and Germany have inked a bilateral cooperation deal for the two countries to collaborate on a series of green hydrogen projects.
The deal builds on existing cooperation established between the countries and aims to support the trade and development of the resource.
Green Hydrogen Lead in the Investment and Infrastructure Office of the President of South Africa Masopha Moshoeshoe stated that under the terms of the deal, Germany will provide support regarding the development of markets while facilitating imports and connecting producers with technology partners across South Africa’s growing green hydrogen economy.
Moshoeshoe emphasized that due to the robust presence of green hydrogen projects in South Africa, the collaboration will facilitate the establishment of business-to-business prospects connecting our developers with off-takers in Germany.
Germany has already committed significant capital to the development of green hydrogen in South Africa under broader objectives of securing long-term fuel supply.
Alongside France, Britain, the United States and the European Union, the country committed $8.5 billion towards the development of a green hydrogen economy in South Africa.
With the new deal, Germany aims to not only secure supply but ensure the relevant off-takers are ready.
