Sonangol Receives Prestigious African Oil Company of the Year Award

Sonangol was honored on Tuesday 17th October with the National Petroleum Company of the Year Award during the 2023 African Energy Week (AEW), a gathering of key continental players in the sector that concludes today in Cape Town, South Africa, on the fifth day of the event.

On October 19, 2023, in the latest update at 10:06 AM, Sonangol received the National Petroleum Company of the Year Award. Osvaldo Inácio, the Executive Administrator, accepted the award on behalf of the Sonangol delegation at the event, which also included the Presidents of the Executive Committees of the Exploration and Production Business Unit (UNEP) and Gas and Renewable Energies Business Unit (UNGER), Ricardo Van-Deste and Manuel Barros.

Sonangol’s website, which announced the distinction yesterday, quoted the organization as stating that the award was granted in recognition of the remarkable efforts and investments that the company has dedicated to ensuring the stability of the national and continental oil and gas sector, as well as its commitment to sustainability and energy transition.

The source also quoted Sebastião Gaspar Martins, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonangol, congratulating the company and considering the recognition to be the result of teamwork and the commitment of all.

“We all deserve congratulations. It is the result of teamwork and commitment from everyone towards the goals we have set and are gradually achieving. We must not forget the oversight and our partners who have supported us,” he said.

During the event, the representation of the Angolan oil company participated in panel discussions on sector-related issues and gave technical presentations showcasing the actions the company has undertaken in areas that encompass the modern concepts of the hydrocarbon industry.

This year’s event, the third in which Sonangol has participated, remained focused on supporting “the continent’s efforts to reduce energy poverty by 2030, facilitating investment in numerous business opportunities throughout the energy value chain, including conventional fossil fuels and cleaner energy sources, providing a global collaboration platform between the industry, governments, international organizations, and other stakeholders.
