Sonangol announced, in a statement, on Wednesday January 17th, that it had launched an international competition to select fuel suppliers to the country for the period from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
In the document, the company declares that it has launched a limited tender, for which it invited 14 companies, of which some will be selected to conclude contracts to supply gasoline and diesel in the form of on-site delivery.
Competitions of this type are held annually, and in 2023, the competition took place between January 6th and February 14th.
With Sonangol invested as logistics superintendent of the petroleum derivatives system, it invited 21 companies, ultimately selecting the BP International LTD for the supply of gasoline and Trafigura PTE LTD for diesel.
Data from July 2023 indicate that, in the first half of that year, Angola cut fuel imports by 21 percent, as a result of the start of operations at the Luanda Refinery, following a process of modernization and expansion of production.
From July to September 2023, the country used around 549 million dollars to import 704.7 million metric tons of fuel for sale, close to 68 percent of the total fuel consumed, which was 1.036 million metric tons , with the remaining quantities acquired being distributed between the Luanda Refinery (31 percent) and Cabgoc-Topping de Cabinda (1.00 percent).
