Sonangol Expands Light Well Intervention Program in Offshore Block 3/05

The National Fuel Company of Angola (Sonangol) is set to continue its light well intervention program in Offshore Block 3/05, aimed at enhancing facility reliability and optimizing oil production.

This initiative was detailed in a semi-annual earnings update from oil and gas company Afentra.

The upgrade program will focus on increasing water injection rates, building on the maximum injection rate of approximately 60,000 barrels per day achieved in April.

Additionally, the project will involve the installation of new gas flare meters, the development of electric submersible pump installations, the identification of potential drilling prospects, and the assessment of associated gas management.

Afentra noted that water injection and energy systems will be primary areas of focus during a comprehensive shutdown set to begin this September. The installation of new gas meters is expected to establish an accurate baseline emissions profile.

According to Afentra, Blocks 3/05 offer significant organic growth opportunities for operators, given their substantial resource base and growth potential.

The two companies are collaborating on repair plans and targeting installations through the end of 2025, as well as identifying potential drilling sites for the upcoming years.

The report emphasized that the assets in Block 3/05 have considerable potential for reserve replacement, increased production, and reduced emissions through the optimization of operational wells and infrastructure, completion of workover activities, and the drilling of additional infill wells.
