Seplat Installs 850 MMscfd of Gas Infrastructure to Boost Nigeria’s Energy Supply

Seplat Energy Plc has achieved a major milestone in Nigeria’s energy sector by installing over 850 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas infrastructure to enhance domestic gas supply.

Speaking at a press briefing, Seplat’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Samson Ezugworie, stated that the development aligns with the company’s mission to reduce energy poverty and support sustainable national growth.

“We’ve installed over 850 MMscfd of gas infrastructure across Nigeria to meet domestic demand,” Ezugworie said, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He noted that this figure does not include additional gas potential from the company’s recent acquisition of assets from Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU).

“With the MPNU deal, we plan to tap into vast gas reserves and channel them toward powering more homes and industries,” he added.

Ezugworie emphasized Seplat’s long-term commitment to sustainability, guided by strong environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles.

“Creating a sustainable business requires vision, even if its full impact isn’t immediate,” he said.

The company is also investing in talent development, having recently hired 50 graduates into its development program for extensive cross-departmental training.

“This effort reflects our commitment to building a future-ready leadership and skilled workforce,” Ezugworie noted.

As part of its End of Routine Flaring (EORF) roadmap, Seplat is also advancing infrastructure to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions and improve energy efficiency.

A key project in this plan is the Sapele Integrated Gas Plant, where the first module is already online and producing gas. Full operational capacity is expected by 2025.

“Once fully operational, the plant will significantly reduce our Scope 1 emissions,” Ezugworie concluded.
