The Republic of the Congo is preparing to make its first LNG shipment from its Tango FLNG facility. The cargo is currently being loaded and will be delivered to the Piombino regasification terminal in Italy in the coming days.
The announcement was made by energy supermajor Eni on February 27 during a launch ceremony in Pointe Noire in the presence of the Republic of the Congo’s President Denis Sassou N’Guesso, Minister of Hydrocarbons Bruno Jean-Richard Itoua.
“The first cargo of LNG from Congo is the result of the strong commitment of Eni and its partners and of the unwavering support of the Government of the Republic of the Congo,” stated Eni CEO Claudio Descalzi, adding, “Eni and the local partners shared work forces, know-how and technologies, ensuring additional revenues to the country while contributing to Europe’s energy security.”
First gas for the Tango FLNG facility, which boasts a liquefaction production capacity of 1 billion cubic meters (bcm), was received in December 2023.
The project leverages gas resources and existing production infrastructure from the Marine XII concession, roughly 3km offshore the Republic of the Congo.
Boasting a capacity of 3.5 bcm, a second FLNG vessel is expected to come onstream in 2025, bringing the project’s total liquefaction capacity to roughly 4.5 bcm per year.
