Power Outage Leaves 11 Provinces Without Electricity in Angola

A widespread power outage has left 11 provinces in Angola without electricity following an interruption in the North and Central Interconnected System.

The blackout, which occurred on the afternoon of Monday, January 6, 2025, affected areas including Luanda, Bengo, Benguela, Huambo, and Bie, among others.

According to a statement from the National Electricity Transmission Network (RNT), the outage disrupted electricity supply to more than 10 provinces.

“At 2:42 pm, there was an interruption in the North and Center Interconnected System, depriving electricity supply to the following provinces: Luanda, Icolo and Bengo, Bengo, Cuanza Norte, Cuanza Sul, Uíge, Zaire, Malanje, Benguela, Huambo, and Bie,” the statement explained.

The RNT has confirmed that it is investigating the cause of the disruption and is actively working to restore power to the affected areas as soon as possible.

“The technical teams are dedicated to restoring the energy supply promptly,” the company said, adding that it appreciates the public’s understanding amid the inconvenience caused.
