Petrobras may soon resume operations in Angola, following discussions held this Monday between Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, and a delegation from the Brazilian state-owned oil company led by Sylvia dos Anjos, Executive Director of Exploration and Production.
The meeting, held on the sidelines of the Africa Energy Week conference in Cape Town, South Africa, explored the potential for Petrobras to re-enter Angola’s energy market, which both parties described as being of mutual interest, according to a statement from the Angolan Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas.
During the meeting, it was noted that Petrobras continues to assess potential opportunities in Angola, keeping the nation on its radar for future investments.
Minister Azevedo also outlined Angola’s ongoing projects in hydrocarbons, highlighting initiatives such as the ammonia project, phosphate and potassium resource development, green hydrogen production, and domestic cooking gas initiatives.
An Angolan delegation, headed by Minister Azevedo and including representatives from the National Oil, Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) and Sonangol, is participating in Africa Energy Week in South Africa.
The minister’s agenda at the conference includes meetings with leaders from various oil and energy companies, including Lukoil and Equinor, as well as participation in thematic panels such as “Unlocking Deepwater E&P Know-How,” “Investment in Angola Energies,” and the “ExxonMobil Africa STEM Challenge.”
On Tuesday, Minister Azevedo is scheduled to deliver remarks at the conference, visit ANPG exhibitions, and engage with energy companies operating in Angola.
Following the conference, he will travel to Johannesburg to preside over the Mining Investment Forum on November 6, which will convene mining companies and service providers.
