Official data from the Spanish energy regulator, CORES, as reported by Bloomberg, reveals a substantial spike in Angola’s oil imports in October, hitting the highest volume since August 2018.
This surge saw imports doubling compared to the same period in 2022, reaching a notable 548 thousand tons.
Brazil, maintaining its stronghold as Spain’s primary oil provider for the fourth consecutive month, outpaced the United States in October.
Post-Brazil, the most significant oil suppliers to Spain in October were the United States, Angola, and Nigeria. The collective import of crude oil surged by 11.3 percent, totaling 5.3 million tons during this period.
Bloomberg highlights a growing interest in African oil, notably since last year’s events, triggered by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
Consequently, the European Union imposed sanctions on Russia, prompting a shift in oil import preferences.
CORES, a non-profit public entity operating under the Ministry of Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge, oversees these critical energy statistics, as detailed on its website.
