NNPC Confirms Seplat Maintenance from Feb 12–15 May Temporarily Reduce Gas Supply to Nigerian Power Plants
Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced that Seplat Energy will conduct routine maintenance on its gas production facilities from February 12 to 15, 2026.
According to a statement issued by NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the scheduled work may temporarily reduce gas supply to some power generation companies connected to the NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company pipeline network.
Maintenance to Support System Reliability
NNPC stated that Seplat, a joint venture partner and key supplier into the national gas pipeline network, scheduled the maintenance as part of standard safety and asset integrity procedures.
The work is intended to maintain operational reliability, efficiency and safe performance of critical gas infrastructure.
The company emphasized that periodic maintenance is essential to sustaining steady system operations and minimizing the risk of unplanned outages.
Temporary Impact on Power Generation
During the four-day maintenance window, gas volumes delivered into the pipeline network are expected to decline.
As a result, some gas-fired power plants may experience reduced fuel availability, potentially leading to a temporary dip in electricity generation.
NNPC indicated that it is coordinating closely with Seplat to ensure the maintenance is completed safely and within the scheduled timeframe.
In addition, NNPC Gas Marketing Limited has engaged alternative suppliers to mitigate potential supply shortfalls and stabilize the network during the period.
Alignment with National Gas Strategy
The announcement follows the recent unveiling of the Gas Master Plan 2026 by NNPC, a strategic framework designed to enhance domestic gas utilization, support industrial growth and strengthen Nigeria’s energy security. The plan aligns with the federal government’s Decade of Gas initiative.
NNPC stated that full gas supply is expected to resume immediately after the maintenance is completed, allowing affected power generation companies to return to normal operations.
