Nigeria’s Oil Production Increases Amid Security Boost and Regulatory Reforms
Nigeria’s oil production increased last month, continuing a steady upward trend, according to the head of the country’s upstream petroleum regulator.
As Africa’s top crude oil producer, Nigeria depends heavily on oil revenues for government funding and foreign exchange. Sustained production growth is therefore critical to the nation’s economic stability.
In recent years, the sector has faced significant challenges, including oil theft, insecurity in the Niger Delta, and a decline in investment.
These issues have disrupted output and strained public finances. In response, the government has ramped up security operations in key oil-producing regions to curb illegal activities and restore confidence.
Gbenga Komolafe, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), stated during an energy conference that the recent increase in production reflects the positive impact of these intensified security efforts.
He emphasized that the improvement is part of a broader initiative aimed at significantly boosting national output.
Komolafe also reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to collaborating with industry stakeholders to sustain these gains and ensure greater transparency and accountability across the sector.
