Nigeria Accelerates Hydrogen Development with FOSSREA Partnership

The Federal Government of Nigeria has entered into a significant agreement with the Foundation for Sustainable Social Responsibility in Emerging Africa (FOSSREA) to advance hydrogen development initiatives.

Mrs. Oluwakemi Ogunmakinwa, Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, emphasized in a statement that the agreement marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s commitment to hydrogen as the future fuel.

She quoted Permanent Secretary Ambassador Nicholas Agbo Ella, who highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership during his meeting with the German Embassy, underscoring Nigeria’s progress in hydrogen production.

Ambassador Ella stressed the necessity of involving FOSSREA in Nigeria’s hydrogen discourse, emphasizing that the Ministry, through a Local Organising Committee (LOC), will collaborate closely with FOSSREA to conduct research, harmonize efforts, and exchange ideas beneficial to Nigeria’s development.

“Hydrogen, as the fuel of the future, is transforming global activities across various sectors and climates, and Nigeria must remain at the forefront,” Ella affirmed.

Mr. Aliu Hydar Mijinyawa, Chairman of FOSSREA, echoed Ambassador Ella’s sentiments, highlighting hydrogen’s global significance as a key future fuel.

He noted that many countries, including those in Africa, are already advancing in hydrogen deployment, attracting substantial investments.

Mijinyawa urged Nigeria to seize the opportunities presented by the hydrogen economy, emphasizing its potential to benefit the nation economically and technologically.

He confirmed that FOSSREA will engage experts from within and outside Nigeria to contribute their expertise and collaborate on establishing a robust hydrogen foundation in the country, aiming to propel Nigeria forward in the global hydrogen landscape.
