The New Gasoline Production Complex at the Luanda Refinery, recently opened by Sonangol, reached a maximum capacity of 1,580,000 liters of gasoline/day, against the previous 395,000 liters, under safe conditions.
According to the coordinator of the project to increase the complex’s gasoline production capacity, João Mayer, reaffirms that with the complex being fully operational, it will reduce expenses with annual fuel imports by 15 percent and will save 300 million euros. of dollars a year, to the country.
According to João Mayer, who was speaking to the press during a visit to monitor the work carried out since the opening of the refinery, the country currently covers 45 percent of the needs of domestic consumption of gasoline and has already reached self-sufficiency in Jet-A1, Kerosene and Fuel. (oil for cement plants).
“The complex’s operations are running as scheduled. So far the complex has completed 4 million working hours, without accidents”, he assured.
With gigantic towers, in a total area of 170 hectares, the complex produces about 40 refined products and uses about 3,600 thousand liters of water in the production of the daily volume.
The project is carried out with about 272 professionals, all national staff and for engineer João Mayer “it is a feeling of pride and belonging to be able to contribute to the development of the country”.
As for the construction of a bio-refinery, at the refinery’s facilities, the official said that the project that will guarantee the country’s energy transition is in the preliminary phase and “as soon as we have an idea of how we will integrate this green refinery into the apparatus, we will be able to give segment to the subsequent phases”.
