The National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (NAMCOR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global offshore energy contractor Subsea7, marking a significant step toward advancing offshore infrastructure development in Namibia’s rapidly emerging oil and gas sector.
The agreement follows recent offshore energy discoveries and is set to promote knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, and the development of a highly skilled and technically proficient local workforce.
NAMCOR stated that the partnership will “drive innovation, enhance safety, and support the sustainable growth of Namibia’s energy industry.” It also aims to strengthen the state-owned company’s ability to manage complex subsea development projects, including Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers, and Flowlines (SURF).
“Through this agreement, NAMCOR is positioned to leverage Subsea7’s extensive expertise and innovative technologies to deliver lower-carbon and sustainable energy solutions,” the company said.
Victoria Sibeya, Acting Managing Director of NAMCOR, hailed the agreement as a major milestone in Namibia’s energy journey.
“These partnerships are designed to create synergies within the industry and guide us as we develop our nascent oil and gas sector,” Sibeya said.
“We are excited to be at the forefront of value creation in Namibia’s energy landscape.”
Subsea7’s Vice President of Pursuits for Namibia, Steve Tate, echoed this sentiment, describing the MoU as the foundation of a strong, long-term relationship.
“This agreement is pivotal in advancing Namibia’s offshore energy goals and supporting the growth of its energy sector,” Tate said.
The partnership is part of NAMCOR’s broader strategy to expand its role in upstream operations, not only to attract foreign investment but also to build domestic capacity, ensuring long-term national benefits from its natural resources.
