Minister Diamantino Azevedo visits Chinese oil companies

Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, embarked on a visit to China, where he engaged with representatives from China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) and China National Chemical Engineering Company (CNCEC) on potential collaborations.

During the meetings, Azevedo, accompanied by ANPG and Sonangol officials, discussed various opportunities in Angola’s oil and mining sectors, including the exploration of oil blocks, refining, petrochemicals, and the trade of crude oil.

Both parties expressed their commitment to environmental sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Key topics of discussion included the Lobito Refinery project and the potential addition of a petrochemical component, as well as the “Amufert project” aimed at producing ammonia and urea for fertilizer production, crucial for agriculture.

CNCEC’s president, Mo Dingge, affirmed their commitment to existing partnerships with Sonangol and expressed readiness to explore further cooperation opportunities. A delegation from CNCEC is set to visit Angola to explore potential areas of collaboration.

Looking ahead, discussions will continue leading up to the China-Africa Summit in September, where cooperation results will be presented to both Presidents, emphasizing the importance of ongoing collaboration between Angola and China.

Additionally, the visit includes scheduled meetings with SINOPEC, Huawei, and a prestigious university, highlighting Angola’s efforts to strengthen ties and explore new avenues of cooperation with Chinese partners.
