Mineral Resources Sector to Work on long-term strategy

The Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas will work on the long-term strategy, according to advanced information at the Forum of the Association of Prospectors and Developers of Canada (PDAC), which took place from the 5th to the 8th of this month.

Participation in the event aimed to attract the largest companies in the world’s extractive industry to the mineral resources sector, in addition to those already operating in the market, as well as small and medium-sized companies.

According to data that Jornal de Angola had access to, within the scope of the Government to Government meetings (G2G – in English), the International Chamber of Business Angola-Canada (CINAC) promoted a working meeting between the ministerial representatives of the Angolan Executive, namely Mirempet (Directorate of Mineral Resources, Endiama and Catoca), Ministry of Transport (Port of Luanda) and Public Works, Urban Planning and Housing (EGTI), as well as the Commercial Services Commission of the Government of Canada, with the aim of understanding the vision Angola’s multisectoral approach with regard to the country’s sustainable development.

At this meeting, according to the document, Mirempet defended that the country has been committed to improving the “business environment”, the diversification of mining production and the creation of conditions aimed at promoting geological and mining activity.

PDAC is the leading voice in the mineral exploration and development community, an industry that supports 719,000 people in direct and indirect employment and contributes $106 billion to Canada’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) every year.

The institution is represented by more than 6,000 members worldwide, with its work focused on supporting a competitive, responsible and sustainable mining sector. Mirempet was represented at the event by the national director of Mineral Resources, Paulo Tanganha, on behalf of Minister Diamantino Azevedo.
