Metacon to Supply Green Hydrogen Pilot Plant for Moroccan Wind-to-Hydrogen Project

Metacon has secured a key contract worth €1,820,600 to design and deliver a containerized electrolysis plant for a groundbreaking green hydrogen pilot project in Morocco.

The plant, designed as a fully integrated and ready-to-install system, will test pressurized alkaline electrolyzers directly connected to wind turbines.

The insights gained from this pilot will help the client—a major player in Africa’s wind energy sector—scale up industrial production of green hydrogen, e-fuels, and green ammonia.

This initiative highlights North Africa’s emerging role in the global green hydrogen economy, driven by abundant renewable energy resources.

Christer Wikner, CEO of Metacon, described the deal as a major milestone, expressing optimism that it marks the beginning of a long-term partnership focused on large-scale hydrogen solutions across the region.

Metacon is known for developing advanced systems for fossil-free green hydrogen production. Through its Electrolysis business unit—developed in partnership with China-based PERIC Hydrogen Technologies—the company delivers complete hydrogen production solutions, including hydrogen refueling stations integrated with on-site generation systems to support clean transport.

In parallel, Metacon’s Reforming unit employs its patented HIWAR® technology to produce hydrogen from biogas and other renewable hydrocarbons. Research and development for this unit is led by Metacon S.A., its subsidiary in Greece, with a focus on compact, efficient hydrogen reformers.

Through this Moroccan venture, Metacon further solidifies its presence in North Africa’s clean energy transition and green hydrogen market.
