Janio Correa Victor, the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, announced that the Mavoio mine, located in Maquela do Zombo, Uige, is expected to commence copper production next year.
Currently, equipment is being installed at the site following comprehensive environmental and economic analyses to facilitate the transition into the production phase.
Speaking at a conference on investments in the mineral resources, oil, and gas sectors, Correa Victor emphasized the project’s potential to significantly boost both provincial and national economic development while providing job opportunities for young people.
“We hope that this project will greatly enhance the development of the province and the national economy, as well as guarantee employment for youth,” he stated.
Additionally, Correa Victor noted that there is potential for oil and gas exploration in the province, with the National Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANPG) conducting prospecting activities in the regional interior basins.
He also mentioned ongoing quartz mining projects in the province that are already in the production stage.
According to Angop, previous prospecting efforts conducted over 14 years ago revealed that the Mavoio mine, which also encompasses the Tetelo and Bembe mines, contains more than 40 million tons of pure copper.
The conference, themed “Investment in the Mining and Oil Sector for Economic Diversification,” aimed to discuss various topics, including the country’s mining potential.
Attendees included the presidents of the boards of directors of companies under the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil, and Gas, as well as various business leaders.
