Masdar and Partners Propel Egypt’s Renewable Energy Ambitions with 1.2 GW Solar Projects

Masdar, Infinity Power, and Hassan Allam Utilities have partnered with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC) to accelerate Egypt’s renewable energy transformation.

This collaboration includes two Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) and 720 megawatt-hours (MWh) of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

The initiative includes a 900 MW solar power plant with BESS in Wahat and a 300 MW solar power plant with BESS in Benban.

These projects will significantly reduce carbon emissions, align with Egypt’s sustainability goals, and expand clean energy availability.

They form part of Masdar’s broader 4 GW renewable energy program and mark the first phase of a strategic plan to develop 11 GW of renewable capacity in Egypt.

Amr Allam, Co-CEO of Hassan Allam Holding, emphasized the critical role of private-public partnerships in driving renewable energy advancements in Egypt, stating, “This 1.2 GW solar investment is a foundational step in a broader pipeline of renewable energy and green hydrogen projects.”High-Level Endorsements

The agreement was signed during a ceremony in Al-Alamein city, attended by Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouli, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, and other prominent figures.

Masdar’s CEO, Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, highlighted the consortium’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s clean energy transition, adding that the project aligns with Masdar’s goal to achieve a 100 GW renewable energy portfolio by 2030.

Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Chairman of Infinity Power, and Nayer Fouad, CEO of Infinity Power, both underlined the transformative potential of these projects.

The solar initiatives will bolster Egypt’s leadership in renewable energy while serving as a catalyst for future green investments across the region.

These solar projects not only contribute to Egypt’s renewable energy goals but also play a vital role in Africa’s broader transition to sustainable energy.

They align with government climate action commitments, ensuring cleaner, more resilient energy solutions for the future.

This partnership represents a significant step toward fulfilling Egypt’s renewable energy aspirations and strengthening its position as a regional leader in sustainable power generation.
