The Luena Photovoltaic Plant in Moxico province is slated to become operational next month, following the completion of electrical grid interconnection work scheduled for May 30th.
This project will significantly enhance the city’s electricity distribution capacity, contributing over 26 MW to the local grid.
According to the Moxico provincial government’s Facebook page, the plant is currently in its experimental phase and has the capacity to meet the energy demand of approximately 20 MW.
The final phase of tests and adjustments for network protection and load flow is expected to be completed by the end of May. This will result in a substantial improvement in energy supply and a reduction in fuel consumption.
ENDE, the national electricity distribution company, operates a total of five plants: three thermal plants, one hydro plant, and the new photovoltaic plant.
Despite these resources, the company faces financial and technical challenges, including an accumulated debt exceeding 2 billion kwanzas, ongoing energy theft, and vandalism of equipment.
