Luele Mining Targets Over 9 Million Carats in 2026 While Strengthening Operations and Community Impact

Luele Mining Sets Ambitious Diamond Production Goal, Boosts Sustainability and Social Development

Luele Mining Company plans to produce more than nine million carats of diamonds in 2026, the company’s CEO, Romulo Mucase, announced while reviewing the firm’s first two years of operation.

“We are preparing the mine to ensure a steady supply of ore and optimal operation of our processing plant, which now has two mills. We aim to extract over 12 million cubic meters of ore and produce more than nine million carats.

These are ambitious but achievable targets, critical for the company’s sustainability and its contribution to the national plan,” Mucase said.

Reflecting on 2025, he noted that while the year was rewarding, it posed challenges, particularly due to a drop in diamond market prices, which affected revenue and operational capacity.

He emphasized the importance of prudent management, efficiency, diversified commercial approaches, and disciplined operational execution to sustain the company until market conditions stabilize.

Despite commercial challenges, Luele Mining ensured the systematic development of mining operations, the launch of Mill 2 to increase production in 2026, and significant progress in the community resettlement program, which included building 350 homes equipped with social infrastructure.

Employment remains a priority, with over 3,300 workers, mostly young Angolans, contributing to local economic development. The company also invests in technology, including geological studies, the construction of Mill 2, upgrading processing plant infrastructure, renewing mining equipment, and enhancing mine drainage, water management, and energy generation capacity.

Mucase highlighted Luele Mining’s long-term commitment to Angola’s diamond sector. As the country’s second-largest diamond producer, Luele contributed 43% to national diamond output in its first year.

Strategic projections suggest a 60-year mine life (2023–2083), with production potentially reaching 12 million carats annually in the future.

The company also focuses on sustainable and responsible mining practices, compliance with international standards (ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001), human capital development, community support, and the country’s social and economic growth.

“Luele has a responsibility to achieve its production goals while supporting community development, enhancing living conditions, and strengthening Angola’s position among global diamond producers,” Mucase concluded.

Challenges include technological and financial adaptation, employee training, social and environmental management, and regulatory compliance, which the company continues to address proactively.
