Ghana Launches 20 MW Solar Project to Strengthen National Energy Capacity

Ghana is set to enhance its energy grid with the launch of a strategic 20 MW solar project, aimed at strengthening national energy capacity and supporting the country’s energy transition goals.

Led by Denmark-based Renergy Solar, the initiative is part of a larger 40 MW solar project aimed at expanding Ghana’s clean energy footprint and reducing carbon emissions.

Renergy Solar has completed the necessary network and environmental impact assessments, with local regulators currently reviewing the project.

Scheduled to be operational by 2025, the solar plant is a key component of Ghana’s Energy Transition and Investment Plan (ETIP), which was unveiled in 2023 in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL). The ETIP aims for net-zero emissions in Ghana’s energy sector by 2060, with solar energy playing a central role.

This project aligns with Ghana’s efforts to meet growing renewable energy demand, support economic growth, and integrate more deeply into regional energy markets, fostering cross-border energy trade.

It also reflects Africa’s increasing trend of public-private partnerships in funding and developing sustainable energy infrastructure.
