Galp, along with its partners NAMCOR and Custos, has completed drilling and logging the Mopane-2A well (Well 4) in PEL83, following its successful spudding.
The Mopane-2A well revealed a gas-condensate hydrocarbon column in the AVO-3 reservoir, featuring a thin net pay within the reservoir’s sweet spot.
Additionally, the well uncovered a light oil hydrocarbon column in the smaller AVO-4 reservoir. Both reservoirs exhibited high-quality sands with excellent porosity and permeability, elevated pressures, low fluid viscosities, minimal CO2, and no H2S.
Similar to previous Mopane wells, Mopane-2A showed no water contacts. Galp and its partners are now integrating and analyzing the new data to enhance their understanding of the Mopane complex, while actively assessing the commercial potential of these discoveries.
The drillship is now moving to the Mopane-3X exploration site (Well #5), with plans to target the stacked AVO-10 and AVO-13 reservoirs, with spudding anticipated around January 1, 2025.
The joint venture is also conducting a proprietary 3D seismic survey with high density and resolution across the Mopane complex.
