Experts involved in hydrocarbon exploration from the Republics of Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) analyzed the situation of the Common Interest Zone (CIZ) and the approach of the joint mechanism for the supply of petroleum products between Sonangol, Sonahidroc, and Cobil S.A. in Luanda yesterday, Tuesday 20.
In the opening of the expert meeting, the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Corrêa Victor, emphasized Angola’s interest in complying with the timeline of the process, as well as the partnership in fuel supply. In turn, the Minister of Hydrocarbons of the DRC, Didier Budimbu Ntubuanga, stated that he expects to finalize the points from the September 2022 meeting and validate the agreements signed by Angola and the DRC.
Furthermore, the Congolese Minister expressed his hope for the acceleration of the operationalization process of the CIZ, actions related to the humanization of the production-sharing contract between the two countries, as well as the creation of terms of reference for negotiation with the operating groups.
The meeting, led by the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Corrêa Victor, and the Minister of Hydrocarbons of the DRC, Didier Budimbu Ntubuang, takes place within the framework of the cooperation protocol between the two countries in the field of hydrocarbons, signed in 2003.
This protocol has been examining aspects related to the joint research and production of hydrocarbons in the Common Maritime Zone of Interest (lower Congo basin).
Angola and the DRC share an extensive land, maritime, and river border.
