Over the past 30 years, American multinational ExxonMobil has invested more than $100 million in social projects across Angola, according to Katrina Fisher, the company’s Country Manager for Angola.
In an exclusive interview with Energy Capital & Power during the fifth edition of the Angola Oil & Gas Conference, Fisher highlighted that these investments have primarily supported healthcare initiatives and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
“Just this past year, we launched two major programs: the Jr. NBA project, which connects basketball players with STEM education, and a STEM education contest where students from Angola, Mozambique, Nigeria, and Namibia will compete at African Energy Week in South Africa this November,” Fisher shared.
Fisher also emphasized ExxonMobil’s commitment to fostering a diverse and capable female workforce in Angola, with women playing key roles in offshore and onshore operations, engineering, and management.
“We support women’s empowerment as a founding partner of the Muhatu Energy initiative, running mentoring programs and developing policies that uplift women,” she added.
In addition to its social initiatives, ExxonMobil launched a frontier exploration campaign in the Namibe Basin in July 2024 and increased production by 30% at Block 15 through a redevelopment program. Results from the Namibe Basin exploration are expected by the end of 2024.
“We are expanding our mature assets to meet Angola’s growing energy demands and support economic prosperity,” Fisher concluded.
