Etu Energias Launches Drilling Campaign at Angola’s Block 2/05 to Boost Oil Output
Angolan private energy firm Etu Energias has officially commenced drilling operations at Block 2/05, located in the shallow waters off Zaire Province.

The SMS ESSA jack-up rig arrived at the site on June 25 and began operations on June 27, marking a significant milestone in the block’s redevelopment strategy.

The new drilling campaign includes:

Three development wells

One exploration well

Five technical interventions on existing wells

This program is part of a broader redevelopment initiative for Block 2/05, which comprises 18 mature fields situated in Angola’s Lower Congo Basin.

“The deployment of the SMS ESSA rig underscores the potential of Angolan entrepreneurs in the oil sector — a challenging, capital-intensive industry that also offers tremendous opportunities to generate value and recover investment,” said Paulino Jerónimo, Chairman of Angola’s National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG).

The SMS ESSA rig is specifically designed for shallow-water operations and will operate in depths of up to 30 meters.

Its arrival supports Angola’s strategic push to increase offshore oil production.

Etu Energias aims to ramp up oil output to 80,000 barrels per day by 2030, focusing on reinvestment in mature assets and further exploration of newly acquired blocks.

“Bringing the SMS ESSA rig into operation is a strategic move to enhance national crude production,” said Edson Dos Santos, CEO of Etu Energias.

“This milestone highlights our growing technical and financial capabilities, and reinforces our readiness to create value and meet the sector’s evolving challenges.”

Block 2/05 is being developed through a consortium led by Etu Energias, alongside partners Poliedro, Kotoil, Falcon Oil, and Prodoil.
