Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons to Deliver Keynote Speech at AOG 2023

Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Mines and Hydrocarbons, H.E. Antonio Oburu Ondo, will be delivering a keynote speech at the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) conference in Luanda from September 13-14, 2023.

H.E. Minister Ondo, who is also the current President of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), brings a wealth of experience to the conference, having previously served as the Managing Director of Equatorial Guinea’s National Oil Company (NOC) GEPetrol.

His participation at the event is expected to advance dialogue and foster deals related to Africa’s natural gas prospects.

Equatorial Guinea has been actively working towards positioning itself as a regional Gas Mega Hub by collaborating with foreign players and regional producers to maximize the monetization of offshore gas resources.

Partnerships with countries like Cameroon, Nigeria, and Namibia have not only increased gas production in Equatorial Guinea but also promoted local content, regional collaboration, and trade.

Angola’s success in driving exploration through supportive regulations and the restructuring of its NOC serves as an important lesson for Equatorial Guinea.

Despite being one of the oldest producers in Africa, Angola has managed to initiate an ambitious upstream campaign.

Through close collaboration with foreign companies and ongoing privatization, Angola’s NOC Sonangol has spearheaded a new era of upstream expansion.

Equatorial Guinea aims to learn from Angola’s experience as it seeks to develop its offshore exploration capabilities.

Stephanie Benjamin, International Conference Director at Energy Capital & Power (ECP), emphasizes the potential benefits of the Angola-Equatorial Guinea partnership.

The cooperation between the two countries is expected to drive growth in both the West and Southern African regions.

The AOG conference, with H.E. Minister Ondo’s participation, is seen as a crucial platform to strengthen bilateral ties, foster knowledge sharing and skills development, and facilitate new deals in these promising markets.

The fourth edition of the AOG conference will take place in Luanda from September 13-14, 2023. The event is organized under the auspices of H.E. Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas of Angola, and in partnership with the National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency, AIDAC, and the African Energy Chamber.
