Engie Energy Access has successfully connected over 220,000 families in Mozambique to solar energy through a project valued at more than €18.3 million, the company announced on Thursday.
This initiative has provided solar power to over 1.2 million people across ten of Mozambique’s eleven provinces.
The company, which started operations in 2019, is the sole renewable energy provider in Mozambique offering comprehensive off-grid solutions, including solar home systems and mini-grids.
To strengthen its presence, Engie Energy Access will unveil a new, high-capacity domestic solar system in Maputo on Friday.
This system is designed to power 32-inch televisions and up to eight light bulbs, offering renewable energy solutions to more customers.
Gillian-Alexandre Huart, CEO of Engie Energy Access, highlighted that the company is at a pivotal point in Mozambique.
He emphasized that recent legislative changes and upcoming tax incentives from the Mozambican government will be crucial for attracting further investment and accelerating access to energy for all Mozambican families by 2030.
The Mozambican government has identified renewable energy as a key element in achieving universal access to electricity by 2030, focusing on solutions that extend beyond the national grid.
