The National Electricity Distribution Company (ENDE) has significantly upgraded the quality and reliability of electricity supply in Lobito city, according to Gelson Pinto, Director of Exploration and Maintenance for the Central Region of ENDE.
Pinto announced the deactivation of an old electrical substation, in operation for 58 years, which utilized outdated equipment. It has been replaced with modernized facilities to enhance service efficiency and security.
The investment in updated equipment is expected to enhance redundancy, flexibility, security, and capacity expansion across high, medium, and low voltage assets.
This improvement will particularly benefit areas like Luz, Restinga, Compão, Zona Comercial, Caponte, Zona Industrial, Cassai, Cabaia, and Praia Bebé in Lobito.
Pinto highlighted the positive impact on various establishments including restaurants, nightclubs, shopping centers, health facilities, and residential homes, which will now experience more reliable electricity.
The deactivation of the old Lobito Velha Electrical Substation and the transfer of loads to the “GIS I and II” Electrical Substations were essential due to the deteriorating condition of the former, including oil leaks during peak consumption periods, as explained by Pinto.
ENDE continues to implement projects aimed at improving the overall electrical system, focusing primarily on Lobito municipality.
Pinto emphasized the importance of operating with standardized voltage levels to ensure safety, reliability, and the capacity for future energy expansion.
