Egypt’s Elsewedy Electric Expands Investment in Angola’s Energy and Digital Sectors

Egyptian multinational Elsewedy Electric has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding operations in Angola, with a strong focus on the energy, construction, and digital sectors.

The company aims to support Angola’s infrastructure development, job creation, and knowledge transfer.

Speaking to Angop during President João Lourenço’s official visit to Egypt, Ahmed Amin, Elsewedy Electric’s Regional Director, emphasized the company’s alignment with Angola’s sustainable development goals.

“We are working on integrated solutions to expand the transmission network, improve system reliability, and reduce energy losses using advanced technologies and local capacity,” he said.

Amin also revealed significant progress on the Smart Metering project, developed in partnership with Angolan authorities.

He noted that Elsewedy Electric is committed to supporting Angola’s energy transition, especially through solar energy initiatives and rural electrification.

Elsewedy Electric operates in several Angolan provinces, including Cabinda, Huambo, Luanda, and Malanje, in collaboration with local authorities and the private sector.

According to the company, investments in Angola have exceeded one trillion dollars since last year.

Beyond energy and construction, the group is looking to contribute to the development of Angola’s digital economy. “We aim to help build a resilient digital economy in Angola, by promoting innovation, developing local skills, and improving connectivity,” Amin said.

The company is also exploring investments in telecommunications and digital infrastructure.

Elsewedy Electric, which operates in over 100 countries, is expected to participate in the upcoming Angola International Information and Communication Technologies Forum (Angotic), scheduled for June. Amin described the forum as an excellent platform to present new innovations.

Meanwhile, Angola and Egypt are set to sign an agreement in the public works sector this Tuesday. According to Jornal de Angola, the signing ceremony will be attended by President João Lourenço.

A statement from the Civil Office for Press Affairs of the President of the Republic (CIPRA), accessed by VerAngola, confirmed that President Lourenço arrived in Cairo on Monday for an official visit accompanied by First Lady Ana Dias Lourenço and a delegation of ministers and senior officials.

The visit, which runs through Wednesday, is expected to result in agreements covering at least two areas of cooperation.
