Egypt Discovers Major Natural Gas Reserves in the Western Desert

Egypt Uncovers Significant Natural Gas Discovery in Western Desert’s Badr-15 Sector

Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has announced a major natural gas discovery in the country’s Western Desert, marking another step forward in efforts to boost domestic energy production and reduce dependence on imports.

The find was made by Badr El Din Petroleum Company (BAPETCO) at the Badr-15 sector, following successful drilling at the BED 15-31 exploration well.

According to the ministry, the newly discovered field underscores Egypt’s growing potential as a key natural gas producer in North Africa.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the site could produce up to 16 million cubic feet of natural gas per day, along with approximately 750 barrels of condensate.

The discovery is expected to add around 15 billion cubic feet of gas to Egypt’s total reserves.

Officials said the find reflects Egypt’s commitment to sustainably expanding local energy output, improving supply security, and strengthening its position as a regional gas hub.

Geological experts from the ministry and BAPETCO are now conducting detailed assessments of the surrounding formations to identify optimal drilling locations for future development and maximize recovery from the field.
