Egypt Boosts Renewable Energy Ambitions as Minister Farid Meets Scatec CEO to Expand Solar and Battery Projects
Egypt is strengthening its push toward renewable energy and green investment following a high-level meeting between Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid and Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec.
According to a ministry statement, discussions focused on expanding cooperation in renewable energy development and scaling up sustainable investment projects across the country.
Scatec is an established player in Egypt’s renewable energy sector, with a portfolio that includes participation in the Benban Solar Park one of the world’s largest photovoltaic installations as well as the Obelisk solar project in Nagaa Hammadi.
These projects form part of Egypt’s broader strategy to diversify its energy mix and increase the share of renewables in electricity generation.
Farid reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a stable and supportive investment environment for sustainable projects.
He emphasized that renewable energy remains a central pillar of Egypt’s foreign direct investment strategy, highlighting the country’s geographic position, market size and infrastructure as competitive advantages for global investors.
Pilskog confirmed that Scatec intends to expand its investments in Egypt, citing improvements in the business climate and strong cooperation with government authorities.
He also acknowledged continued state support for renewable energy initiatives and indicated that the company plans to deepen partnerships and transfer expertise to help advance Egypt’s sustainability objectives.
The meeting further explored opportunities to scale up solar generation capacity and integrate battery energy storage systems to ensure reliable and consistent clean power supply.
These developments are expected to support export-oriented industries, enhance industrial competitiveness and reinforce Egypt’s role as a regional energy hub.
As Egypt accelerates its energy transition, partnerships with international renewable energy developers such as Scatec are positioned to play a key role in achieving long-term sustainability and economic growth targets.
