Egypt and Norway Strengthen Energy Cooperation Advancing Green Ammonia Project

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with Norway’s Ambassador to Egypt Hilde Klemetsdal and Terje Pilskog, CEO of Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec, to discuss expanding cooperation in green energy.

The talks focused on Scatec’s ongoing green ammonia production project in Damietta Governorate, which utilizes green hydrogen to support Egypt’s transition to sustainable energy.

Badawi highlighted the strong partnership between Egypt and Norway emphasizing Norway’s advanced technologies and their role in driving strategic energy projects.

He also noted Egypt’s extensive expertise in oil and gas positioning the country as a leader in executing large-scale projects to international standards.

Klemetsdal reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to supporting Egypt’s energy ambitions citing strong political backing from both nations.

Pilskog provided updates on the green ammonia project underscoring Egypt’s strategic location and abundant resources, which make it a key supplier of green hydrogen and ammonia to Europe.

The meeting reinforced both countries’ shared commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives and strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
