The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) exported a total of 27.9 tonnes of gold in 2024, generating approximately $1.5 billion in revenue, according to the annual report from the Technical Unit for Coordination and Mining Planning of the Ministry of Mines.
Kibali Gold was the leading contributor, accounting for more than 26 tonnes of gold worth over $1.3 billion.
In contrast, MCCR exported only 102.92 kg, generating an estimated $7.6 million in revenue, while Kimia Mining exported 5.72 kg, yielding $496,589.
Kibali Gold remains the dominant force in the DRC’s industrial gold exports, responsible for about 99.6% of the total gold volume in 2024.
Exports of raw gold from artisanal mining in 2024 were estimated at 1,755.82 kg, generating more than $127.9 million.
However, there was a significant decrease in artisanal gold exports, falling from five tonnes in 2023 to under two tonnes in 2024.
The majority of artisanal gold exports came from South Kivu (93%), followed by smaller contributions from Tanganyika (2.8%), Ituri (2%), North Kivu (1.7%), and Kinshasa (0.6%).
Overall, industrial gold exports accounted for 94% of the total gold exports, while artisanal exports made up 6%.
While the quantity of gold exports decreased by 3% in 2024 compared to 2023, the increase in international market prices ensured that the total revenue remained on par with the previous year.
