Dangote Refinery has successfully shipped two jet fuel cargoes to Saudi Aramco, marking a significant milestone in its growing global footprint.
During a facility tour with directors of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, highlighted the refinery’s rapid progress.
“We are already achieving our ambitious targets,” Dangote stated. “We are pleased to announce the successful sale of two jet fuel cargoes to Saudi Aramco.”
An industry analyst noted that Saudi Aramco’s decision to source fuel from Dangote Refinery underscores the plant’s scale and quality.
In 2023, S&P Global reported that British Petroleum (BP) purchased its first jet fuel cargo from the refinery.
The shipment, transported via the vessel Doric Breeze, marked BP’s inaugural 45,000-metric-ton cargo from the plant.
S&P Global emphasized that the European-bound shipment signaled Dangote Refinery’s expanding market influence, reshaping West African trade routes.
In early 2023, the refinery initiated tenders for its first fuel exports. It awarded a 65,000-metric-ton low-sulfur straight-run fuel oil cargo to Trafigura, followed by a 60,000-metric-ton naphtha tender.
Singapore, Asia’s leading oil hub, later received its first low-sulfur straight-run fuel oil cargo from Dangote Refinery, filling a supply gap for its major bunkering hub.
Since beginning operations in January 2023, Dangote Refinery has steadily ramped up production, refining up to 650,000 barrels per day and establishing itself as a key player in global energy markets.
