Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) and its subsidiaries have announced a tax remittance of over N402.3 billion for 2024, making the group the highest taxpayer in Nigeria.
Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, Anthony Chiejina, Chief Branding and Communication Officer of Dangote Group, highlighted that the payment includes contributions from key subsidiaries such as Dangote Cement, NASCON, and Dangote Packaging Limited.
“As a responsible business entity, Dangote Group remains committed to fulfilling its tax obligations at all levels of government and supporting host communities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” Chiejina stated.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) recognized Dangote Group and its subsidiary Bluestar Shipping as Nigeria’s most tax-compliant organizations at the 2024 Lagos International Trade Fair, hosted by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI).
Beyond its tax contributions, Dangote Group has played a key role in Nigeria’s industrial self-sufficiency, particularly in cement production and petroleum refining.
The $20 billion, 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery, which began operations in 2024, has significantly reduced the country’s reliance on imported fuel.
The refinery’s entry into the market has intensified competition and helped stabilize fuel prices, particularly following the removal of the fuel subsidy.
However, there are growing concerns about Dangote Refinery’s increasing control of Nigeria’s petrol market.
According to a recent S&P Global report, the refinery now supplies 60% of the country’s petrol, and its market share is expected to expand further as production increases.
While Dangote’s contributions to Nigeria’s economy remain substantial, its growing market dominance raises questions about competition and the future dynamics of the country’s petroleum industry.
