Custos Energy Announces Promising Results from Second Exploration Campaign in Namibia’s Orange Basin

Custos Energy is pleased to provide an update on its second exploration and appraisal campaign for blocks 2813A and 2814B in Namibia’s rapidly growing Orange Basin oil and gas region.

These blocks are part of Petroleum Exploration License 83 (PEL 83), operated by a subsidiary of Galp Energia, with Custos and Namibia’s National Petroleum Corporation (NAMCOR) each holding a 10% working interest.

The PEL 83 Joint Venture partners have successfully drilled, cored, and logged the Mopane-3X well (Well #5), which commenced drilling on January 2, 2025.

Located 18 km from the initial Mopane-1X well, Mopane-3X targeted two stacked prospects, AVO-10 and AVO-13, along with a deeper sand formation in the southeastern region of the Mopane complex. The well was drilled at a water depth of approximately 1,200 meters.

Initial data from Mopane-3X indicates the presence of significant columns of light oil and gas condensate within high-quality sandstones in the AVO-10 prospect.

Light oil columns have also been identified in AVO-13 and the deeper sand formation, further confirming the area’s potential.

Reservoir log measurements reveal excellent porosity, high pressures, and strong permeability. Early fluid samples show low oil viscosity with minimal CO₂ and H₂S content, with samples sent for further laboratory analysis.

The high pressures and positive initial results at Mopane-3X present exciting new exploration and appraisal opportunities in the southeastern Mopane region.

The team plans to integrate all collected data into the reservoir model to guide future activities. Additionally, the 3D seismic development campaign remains on track for completion in Q1 2025, followed by data processing.

“These new discoveries in a previously unexplored section of Mopane demonstrate the scale and quality of the complex,” said Knowledge Katti, Chairman and CEO of Custos. “This world-class asset continues to reveal its multi-phase potential.

We congratulate our joint venture partners on another successful and safe campaign. Custos is proud to be at the heart of this promising hydrocarbon province.”
