On Monday, the staff of the provincial unit of the Customs Fiscal Police in Mbanza Kongo, Zaire, were briefed on Law No. 5/24, enacted on April 23, which targets the smuggling of petroleum products.
This lecture was part of the celebrations marking the 28th anniversary of the founding of this branch of the Interior Ministry, to be celebrated on the 12th of this month.
During the lecture, various topics related to crimes and penalties were discussed, focusing on the illicit transshipment of petroleum products, falsification of authorizations and licenses, use of false documents, and fraudulent obtaining of licenses.
The lecture, held under the theme “Combating Smuggling of Petroleum Products,” also covered increased penalties for National Police employees, Angolan Armed Forces (FAA), customs agents, and the forfeiture of assets to the State.
Luciano Daniel, the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) at the Mbanza Kongo District Court, led the lecture and reminded attendees that the new Law No. 5/24 has been in effect for a month.
This law aims to criminalize fuel smuggling, especially targeting individuals who store large quantities of petroleum derivatives in homes near border areas for smuggling purposes. Violators can face prison sentences ranging from 2 to 5 years.
