Critical Minerals Africa 2023: South Africa, DRC, Zimbabwe, USA, EU, UK, and More Join Final Program

The forthcoming Critical Minerals Africa (CMA) 2023 summit has unveiled its three-day program, bringing together public and private sector industry leaders in a concerted effort to establish world-class mineral supply chains in Africa.

Commencing the main conference agenda on October 18th, 2023 is a ministerial forum that will showcase the participation of ministers from South Sudan, Malawi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, along with ministry representatives from Tanzania and Zimbabwe. They will outline their visions for Africa’s critical minerals sector and solidify the continent’s standing as a prominent mining hub.

Following the ministerial forum, a series of investor briefings from the U.S., U.K., European Union, and Argentina will highlight the increasing foreign interest in Africa’s critical mineral reserves. The aim is to facilitate a global energy transition and ensure mineral security.

The panel discussions will cover a broad range of topics, including private sector achievements in exploring and processing Africa’s critical minerals, the most impactful mining projects underway across the continent, the future of Africa’s minerals economy, strategies to build more resilient supply chains, and the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations into existing mining activities. The panels will also address methods to ensure local beneficiation and value addition within the sector.

Preceding the main conference agenda is a full day of strategic presentations designed to promote sustainable partnerships, policies, and projects in raw materials and bolster global critical mineral supply chains. These presentations will be delivered by influential organizations such as the South African Institute of International Affairs, Rystad Energy, Critical Minerals International Alliance, the EU Delegation to South Africa, Steenkampskraal, and Trade & Industrial Policy Strategies.

The final day of the conference will feature investor briefings focused on Angola, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, and South Sudan. These briefings will delve into each country’s untapped mineral potential, regulatory frameworks, and ongoing or planned mining operations.

The Critical Minerals Africa 2023 summit, taking place from October 17 to 19, is dedicated to positioning Africa as the premier investment destination for critical minerals. The event coincides with the African Energy Week 2023 conference, occurring from October 16 to 20, providing delegates with access to a comprehensive array of energy, mining, and finance leaders in Cape Town.
