Exploration company Corcel has completed the data acquisition phase of the Enhanced Full Tensor Gradiometry (eFTG) Survey on Block KON-16, located in Angola’s onshore Kwanza Basin.
The collected data, acquired by contractor Metatek Group, will now undergo analysis and interpretation through the end of 2024.
This phase is crucial for gaining geological insights to support exploration and development plans for the 1,000 km² block.
“This marks a significant milestone in our exploration efforts, providing a vital dataset to refine our understanding of the subsurface structure and the prospectivity of this large, underexplored block,” said Corcel CEO, Scott Gilbert.
Corcel plans to integrate the eFTG survey results with existing 2D seismic and well data to pinpoint key areas for further investigation.
These findings will guide the company’s targeted 2D seismic program in 2025, with plans to drill the first new well in the block since the 1960s.
Corcel holds a 35% stake in Block KON-16, which is operated through its subsidiary, Atlas Petroleum Exploration Worldwide.
