Construction reached 6.0 percent of GDP 

In the 2022 financial year, the Construction sector recorded real growth of around 5.5 percent with a share of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 6.0 percent.

According to data from the Central Balance Sheet of the National Bank of Angola (BNA), published in March of the current year, the assessment had statistical coverage of 957 companies from the most different size classes, corresponding to a weight of 83.92 per percent of the business volume of the group of companies registered with INE in the period under analysis.

The data shows that, in the 2022 financial year, the sector had an investment in total assets of around six billion kwanzas, of which 808.4 million are made up of non-current assets and 5.2 billion are current assets.

In that period, the Construction sector obtained a positive net result, meaning that the profitability of equity capital is also positive, given that, for every 100 kwanzas of equity invested on average, companies obtained 10.05 kwanzas of profit. In 2021, the sector obtained a profitability of 9.69 percent, that is, for every 100 kwanzas of invested capital, the sector obtained 9.69 kwanzas of profit.

In 2022, the sector showed a drop of 381,352.66 million kwanzas compared to 2021, mainly due to the evolution of non-current assets, which showed a reduction of 11.25 percent.

Current assets also decreased by 5.02 percent, with a decrease in accounts receivable by 10.17 and cash equivalents by 5.01 percent.

Regarding the size class, the evolution of the sector’s turnover in 2022 was mainly influenced by the performance of large companies.

During the aforementioned period, the level of participation of large companies in the sector’s turnover was 81.66 percent, while other companies had a share of 18.34 percent.

As for the return on sales (with emphasis on services provided), in 2022 companies in the sector achieved a profitability of 8.17 percent, compared to 8.95 in 2021. Thus, a reduction in the gain per unit of services provided or sold in the period in question.
