China’s CNOOC to Send Team to Angola to Discuss Block 24 Exploration

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is sending a team of senior executives to Angola to discussion opportunities in oil exploration.

According to Angola’s Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, “In the coming days, a delegation from CNOOC – led by Liu Yongjie, Chairman of the CNOOC International Limited – is set to travel to Angola to start discussions around Block 24 and other oil exploration opportunities.”

Located in the Southern Kwanza Basin, Block 24 is owned by Angola’s national concessionaire, the National Oil, Gas & Biofuels Agency (ANPG), who assumed the block in 2022 following approval by the government. In partnership with international investors, the ANPG aims to explore and develop the block.

The announcement follows a state visit by Angolan President João Lourenço to China on March 14-17. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral ties in various segments of the economy.
