Chevron Backs Namibia’s Emergency Food Support Program to Aid Vulnerable Communities
Harmattan Energy Ltd. (“Chevron”) has pledged support for a two-year Emergency Food Support Programme in Namibia aimed at addressing acute food insecurity and malnutrition.
Developed by Palms for Life in partnership with local organizations and the Office of the Vice President, the program will run from September 2025 to September 2027 across eight regions.
It will provide daily nutritious meals to 3,150 highly vulnerable individuals, including children under five, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and marginalized groups. With shared household consumption, the initiative is expected to benefit approximately 15,750 people annually.
“This initiative complements our national priorities to reduce malnutrition and strengthen resilience in vulnerable communities,” said Namibian Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah.
Chevron Namibia and West Africa Country Manager, Beatrice Bienvenu, emphasized the importance of the program following her visit to Palms for Life’s Early Childhood Development Centre in Farm Uitkomst.
“Seeing nutritious school meals being provided to preschoolers in a remote community highlights the program’s impact on education and the government’s efforts to combat malnutrition,” she said.
Bienvenu also visited a local community clinic to learn more about ongoing efforts to address malnutrition and engaged with community representatives.
“This program exemplifies Chevron’s commitment to supporting communities where we operate by partnering with trusted organizations to deliver immediate relief while promoting long-term food security,” she added.
Chevron’s support will expand Palms for Life’s Early Childhood Development Centres into Community Protection Centres.
These hubs will serve as centers for food distribution, nutrition education, parenting programs, and potentially small-scale community gardens to enhance long-term resilience.
The initiative aligns fully with the Namibian government’s national priorities, ensuring sustainability and complementarity with public-sector efforts.
By combining immediate assistance with community development, the program seeks to protect the health, food security, and future of thousands of families.
Chevron holds an 80% interest in Petroleum Exploration Licence (PEL) 90 (Block 2813B) in the Orange Basin and PEL 82 (Blocks 2112B and 2212A) in the Walvis Basin, offshore Namibia.
